Trees of Righteousness
The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those who are planted in the house of the Lord They shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing, to declare that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him. Psalm 92:12-15
In several places in the Bible, we are compared to trees. If your life was to have roots and become a tree, what would it look like? Jeremiah 17:7 compares us this way to trees; “For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit.”
What a vivid picture these verses paint in my mind. I am reminded of the bonsai tree, which are miniature trees that have had the natural growth stunted by root trimming and pruning. They are not genetically altered in any way. Satan would love nothing more than to stunt your spiritual growth. He knows if you are to reach maturity in your walk with God, you will have a stronger influence on others’ lives for the gospel. If your source of strength is God’s word your root, you will be much closer to being the version of what God has created you to be, not stunted, but fully mature.
Do you feel withered and worn? Do your spiritual roots need a good watering in God’s word? The Word is our source of strength, wisdom, and encouragement.
