There is a Season

There is a Season

After the scorching days of summer, we race to the coffee shop, the grocery, and the closest store that sells candles and home fragrance for the first pumpkin spice.  Why?  Fall is a welcome relief from the heat and signals change.  The smell of apples, the color of leaves, and the thoughts of harvest that brings sweet potatoes and pumpkins from the farm to the table excites us.  All of our senses are involved and evoke memories and emotions…cozy sweaters, fall football, barrels of apples, pumpkin patches and corn mazes, hayrides and fall festivals.  Let’s not leave out the annual trip to nearby mountains to feast on the kind of eye candy that only autumn leaves provide.

God’s word tells us, “As long as the earth exists, seedtime and harvest, cold and hot, summer and autumn, day and night will not cease (Genesis 8:22).”  When the world was conceived, God provided exactly what was needed and gave assurance that so long as the world existed that we would have the seasons….a time to plant, to harvest, and time in the cold for regeneration before the spring and reseeding again.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 declares, “To every thing there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven”.  God understood that just like the earth, man would experience changes in his lifetime.  He knew that there would be birth and death, happiness and sadness, laugher and crying,  loss and great gain (Ecclesiastes 3:2-8).

The rhythm of the earth’s seasons teaches us with great assurance that change is necessary and also beneficial.  Regardless of your season in life, embrace life’s changes knowing that just as carefully as He created the rhythm of earth’s seasons, your life with its challenges and changes is in His hands.
