Your Enemy Waits
Watching the birds gather around the feeder is a preoccupation of mine, especially on a “cool-ish” morning with a hot cup of coffee in hand. On this morning, a most gorgeous group of birds, red, blue, and even woodpeckers flitted from the feeder to the ground, scattering hulls to find their favorite breakfast among the scattered seed. Suddenly, a cloud of birds and the roar of flapping wings filled the air. Lurching from a nearby bush to the bird feeder, the unseen predator found his favorite morning breakfast, too.
Broken-hearted to see one of the flock carried away by its stealthy enemy, I thought how proficient that cat had been at stalking and when he sprang from the bush, it was over. Satan pursues us in the same way. He stalks Christians who are exposed and not vigilant, waiting for just the right moment; then, he devours them. 1 Peter 5:8 warns us, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary, the devil as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour”.
Without warning and in a flash, we can find ourselves in a position for Satan to strike a fatal blow. We have to be vigilant and seriously pursue Christ and His teaching so we are not caught unaware. To paraphrase Philippians 4:6-7, we are told to pray about things that are on our hearts, give thanks, and He will give us peace beyond what we understand. With that, He says He will keep our hearts and minds. Let’s join in prayer today that we be filled with peace and be kept safe from the enemy.
