What’s Love Got To Do With It?
Ok, let’s be honest you just sang that title, right? I am reminded of the old Tina Turner song with this same title where she sings about love being a secondhand emotion. Well, according to Jesus, love has a lot to do with things. In John 13:25 He tells us, “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” Loving others should be a hallmark of who we are as Christ-followers. Just in the book of John, Jesus commands us three separate times to love one another. He also gives us more detail on how when He says to love as he has loved us.
Jesus displayed His love by healing the sick, raising the dead back to life, casting out demons, feeding the hungry, preaching the kingdom, praying for the disciples and the church, and lastly, He willingly gave His life to pay the price of our sins. I think about the many times that the Bible says Jesus was moved with compassion for others and took action. When was the last time you were moved with compassion?
In our fast-paced world, it is difficult to get our minds off of getting from point A to point B, in the time we need to and notice the people hurting around us. Having compassion and taking action shouldn’t be seen as a distraction, as it often is. It is in those moments of us loving others, being the hands and feet of Jesus, that we are reflecting the love of Christ through our actions. May you take time daily to intentionally notice those around you that you can show love to. It may even be your brother or sister in Christ that you need to forgive. Jesus showed His love by forgiving us, should we not also forgive others?
Happy Valentine’s Day, Show God’s love.
